Drugs for tuberculosis are divided into three groups: the first includes drugs with the highest effectiveness against the pathogen, the second - with an average, and the third - with a low one.
Multidrug resistance - whenthe disease does not respond to one drug of the first group, then the second is connected, if this therapy does not give a result, the third. But if the treatment is difficult, the disease does not respond to at least one of the drugs of the second group, then we are already talking about widespread drug resistance.
In Russia, more than a quarter of newly diagnosed patients with tuberculosis become ill with multidrug-resistant mycobacteria. Most are infected with W148 strains.
“The dynamics of drug resistance amongnewly diagnosed cases of diseases is increasing every year. Patients with drug-sensitive TB recover faster, rarely become chronic, and are less likely to infect others. Patients with drug resistance are more difficult to treat, their disease often becomes chronic, ”the press service of the Ministry of Health reported.
