Following in the footsteps of Halo: The Outer Worlds has amazed Microsoft and may become a company exclusive

The Outer Worlds has not yet hit store shelves, but Microsoft already believes that the project can become a franchise, and

exclusive.

What is known

In an interview with Game Informer, the head of Xbox GameStudios' Mike Booty said Obsidian's new project is suited to be a series-exclusive title. For now, The Outer Worlds is published by Private Division, owned by Take-Two, but subsequent games in the series will be released under the wing of Microsoft. Last year, the company bought Obsidian, adding the developers to the Xbox Game Studios family.

When asked by a journalist whether Microsoft plans to make The Outer Worlds 2 exclusive, Booty replied that the game is suitable for this:

"From what I've seen in The Outer Worlds, I believe we can build this into a strong franchise that will grow and we'll help expand it," Booty explained.

It is possible that The Outer Worlds will follow in the footsteps of Halo, the first parts of which were released on PC and Xbox, and later the franchise became a Microsoft exclusive.

At the same time, the rest of the Xbox family studiosGame Studios can continue to create multi-platform projects. According to Booty, there are games that should not be made exclusive, like Minecraft. Microsoft is analyzing whether it is worth investing more resources into the project by making it an exclusive, or whether it will benefit from remaining multi-platform.
