In the USA, they will launch a projectile at a speed of 15,000 km / h into the water and film what happens

Next summer, for the first time in history, American scientists will record the moment of impact of a projectile with a diameter of 18

mm with a water wall at a speed of 14,500 km/h.

Studies of this kind have been carried out before, but almost 80 years ago. However, now, with modern technology, scientists can launch a projectile much faster than before and better record the results on video.

The researchers plan to use a 12.2m long device, namely a two-stage gas cannon, to launch an 18mm projectile into a 2.4m deep water tank.

The power plant will allow you to launch a projectile morehigh speeds that scientists use to simulate the fall of meteorites into the atmosphere. However, without special observation equipment, the experiment will look like a loud bang and a splash of water.

For the experiment, scientists use a speciala high-speed camera capable of shooting 200 million frames per second. For comparison, some smartphones can shoot at 300 frames per second, while the human eye records 30 frames per second.

Now scientists are at the stage of developing an experiment.
