Innovative Qilin battery provides 1,000 km range for electric vehicles

Manufacturers of "green" cars are working closely togetherAnd  batteries from CATL don't just promiseA range of 1,000 km, but also fast charging in just 10  minutes.

Qilin batteries are based on the batterythird-generation cell-to-pack (CTP) CATL system that uses unusually shaped lithium-ion cells. According to a press release from CATL, the battery density is 255Wh/kg, and it also achieved a record volume efficiency of 72%.

Cooling plates that used to belocated on top of the prismatic elements, are now placed between the rows of elements in the new battery. This reportedly quadrupled the heat transfer area of the cell and allows the battery to withstand extended charging.

As a result, Qilin batteries can go from 10% to 80% charge in just 10 minutes, and also maintain a hot start in about five minutes.

CATL also compared the efficiency of its Qilin batteries with the efficiency of the 4680 type cylindrical cells, which Tesla CEO Elon Musk has repeatedly spoken about.

The press release states that her batteriesprovide 13% more power than the 4680 battery. In addition, the third generation battery will also provide higher volume integration, better thermal efficiency and faster charging speed.
