Instagram will start punishing celebrities for hidden ads in posts

The British regulator found that many bloggers do not indicate advertising in their posts. Although, according to the rules

Instagram, any commercial agreements between users and companies must be fully disclosed using #ad or #sponsored.

Usually such commercial agreements of the companymake deals with Instagram celebrities. However, as the investigation showed, many bloggers do not disclose to subscribers that they show paid advertising in their posts. The British regulator also concluded that Facebook, the owner of Instagram, is not taking sufficient measures to solve the problem.

In response to this, the social network made several changes.into their own rules. First, Instagram will ask users to disclose whether they were paid to advertise a product or service. Secondly, the social network will make the commercial partnership tool available to everyone. This will make it easy to display the ad icon on posts. And third, Instagram will use algorithms to spot intruder bloggers. The social network will report violations to customer companies, which could damage the reputation and further earnings of bloggers.
