Intel Disables DirectX 12 in Haswell Graphics Accelerators Due to Serious Vulnerability: List

From news about AMD's successes, let's move on to Intel's failures. The company has disabled support for DirectX 12 for a number of processors

Haswell family.The company explained that this was a necessary security measure taken after the disclosure of a serious vulnerability. The graphics API is disabled for chips with Intel HD Graphics and with Intel Iris Pro Graphics using driver version 15.40.44.5107 or later.

The Haswell family includes Celeron processors,Pentium, Core and Xeon with two to 18 cores released between 2013 and 2015. Intel also posted a list of CPUs with DirectX 12 disabled, which includes the following chips:

• 4th Generation Intel Core Processors with Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200
• 4th Generation Intel Core Processors with Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5100
• 4th Generation Intel Core Processors with Intel HD Graphics 5000/4600/4400/4200
• Pentium and Celeron processors with Intel HD Graphics based on 4th Gen Intel Core

Intel has published an official report inwhich states that the reason for disabling DirectX 12 is a disclosed vulnerability in Intel Graphics that allows process privilege escalation in the operating system. In addition, Intel will not offer an update to address the vulnerability without disabling DirectX 12.

For users who require DirectX 12 to run any of the processors listed above, Intel recommends using driver version 15.40.42.5063 or later.
