Intel introduced the 10-nm processors Core Ice Lake with support for artificial intelligence

Intel has introduced a line of Ice Lake mobile processors. These are the first 10th generation platforms to support

artificial intelligence and improved integrated graphics.

Main characteristics

Ice Lake is built on the latestarchitecture of Sunny Cove. As usual, the line is divided into three families: quad-core Core i5 and Core i7, which have eight task threads, as well as Core i3, which has two cores and four threads. The processor families, in turn, are divided into Y and U series. The base frequency of the Y series is 0.7–1.1 GHz, and the maximum Turbo frequency is 3.2–3.8 GHz. In the U-series, the base frequencies are in the range of 1.0–1.3 GHz, and the maximum Turbo frequencies are 3.4–4.1 GHz.

According to Intel, Ice Lake was the first10th generation processors with support for artificial intelligence. The chips contain the Intel Deep Learning Boost (DL Boost) instruction set, as well as the Intel Gaussian & Neural Accelerator (GNA).

Most of the new products have received improvedintegrated graphics Iris Plus, its operation is also influenced by AI. The older models of the Y and U series are equipped with a chip with 64 execution units (G7), the middle-class platforms received Iris Plus graphics with 48 units (G4), and the younger Intel UHD models with 32 units (G1). The frequency of the built-in chips ranges from 0.9 to 1.1 GHz. Intel claims that Ice Lake's graphics performance has doubled compared to the previous generation.

All processors will also have a built-in Intel Wi-Fi 6 adapter with data transfer speeds above 1 Gbps and a Thunderbolt 3 controller.

The first mobile devices with Ice Lake can be expected by the winter of 2019.
