iPhone 12 mini inside: fragile glass, tiny battery and 6 out of 10 repairability

Following the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, iFixit has finally reached the smallest Apple flagship

this year - iPhone 12 mini. As usual, they dismantled it, carefully evaluated the "stuffing" and gave points for maintainability.

What's inside

Compared to the iPhone 12, many details of the iPhone 12mini have changed. Features - two instead of three display cables, a Taptic Engine module of a different shape and size, a redesigned panel with a speaker, Face ID and sensors ("bangs"), cut sides of the MagSafe circle and a Qualcomm SDX55M 5G modem.

Also, a rather small battery is hiding inside - both in capacity and in size. Its capacity is 8.57 Wh. However, this is still more than the second generation iPhone SE.

Maintainability

In general, the two most common typesSmartphone repairs - the display and the battery are a priority here, and most of the parts are modular, which makes them easy to repair and replace. Special screws complicate repairs, but are still preferred over excessive use of glue. Waterproofing measures also complicate many renovations, but they prevent (extremely difficult) water-borne repairs. And the big minus is the fragile glass covering the back of the case. It is quite difficult to replace it, and it is possible that as a result you will have to change the entire body.

As a result, for the maintainability of the iPhone 12 mini received 6 points out of 10. The same result for the older models of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.
