iPhone 12 mini inside: fragile glass, tiny battery and 6 out of 10 repairability

Following the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, iFixit specialists have finally reached the most compact Apple flagship

this year's iPhone 12 mini. As usual, it was disassembled, the “filling” was carefully assessed and points were given for its repairability.

What's inside

Compared to iPhone 12, many details of iPhone 12mini have changed. Among the features are two display cables instead of three, a Taptic Engine module of a different shape and smaller size, a redesigned panel with a speaker, Face ID and sensors (“notch”), cut sides of the MagSafe circle and a Qualcomm SDX55M 5G modem.

Also hidden inside is a rather small battery, both in capacity and size. Its capacity is 8.57 Wh. However, this is still more than the second generation iPhone SE.

Maintainability

In general, the two most common typesIn smartphone repair, the display and battery are a priority here, and most of the parts are modular, making them easier to repair and replace. Special screws make repairs more difficult, but are still preferable to excessive use of glue. Waterproofing measures also complicate many repairs, but they protect against (extremely difficult) water damage repairs. And the big minus is the fragile glass covering the back of the case. It is quite difficult to replace, and it is possible that as a result the entire body will have to be replaced.
