Galaxy S10e is a simplified version of the Galaxy S10. Samsung had to make a couple of compromises to reduce its cost. The same applies to the iPhone XR, because it is different from the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. Which option is the best budget smartphone? Galaxy S10e or iPhone XR? Read on to find out.

Design

Both smartphones are made of glass and aluminum, look premium and protected against water and dust with IP68 certification. The iPhone XR still looks a bit worse because of the thicker frames around the screen, but in fact it doesn't matter.

The S10e looks more modern than the iPhone XR becauseits screen is not notched. The display is not rounded at the edges, which does not affect the functionality, but may disappoint some users. Both smartphones are available in different colors, but Apple’s options are better than those of Samsung.

Display

  • iPhone XR – 6.1-inch Liquid Retina LCD, 1792 × 828 pixels
  • Galaxy S10e - 5.8-inch FHD + Dynamic AMOLED, FHD +

The Galaxy S10e has a 5.8-inch FHD + Infinity-O Super AMOLED display with HDR10 support. Samsung is famous for the best quality OLED panels, and this time is no exception.

For comparison, the iPhone XR 6.1-inch Liquid Retina display with a resolution of less than 720p. This is one of the best LCD panels, but it definitely is the weakness of the iPhone XR. AMOLED-panel Galaxy S10e has the best contrast, brightness and picture quality.

CPU

  • iPhone XR - 7nmA12 Bionic
  • Galaxy S10e - 7nm Snapdragon 855 or 8nm Exynos 9820

Despite its budget, both smartphones have powerful processors.

In the US, the Galaxy S10e will have a 7nm processorSnapdragon 855, and in other countries - 8nm Exynos 9820. The new processor has become better in terms of performance and economy, but it is still not as powerful as the A12 Bionic. Apple has a great team that deals with processors, and it sets the highest limits of the past few years.

Snapdragon 855 has a more powerful graphicAdreno 640 processor, but this is not important, because for Android there are not as many good games as for iOS. In addition, the display iPhone XR low resolution, for which you do not need a powerful GPU.

Camera

  • iPhone XR - 12 megapixel f / 1.8 lens, optical image stabilization, Smart HDR, Focus Pixels, portrait mode with adjustable depth effect
  • Galaxy S10e - 12 megapixel main lens with doublef / 1.5 and f / 2.4 aperture; optical image stabilization; optional 16 megapixel wide angle lens f / 2.2, Auto HDR, Super Speed Dual Pixel, Live Focus with adjustable bokeh effect

The Galaxy S10 and S10 + have triple main cameras, while the S10e has dual cameras. The iPhone XR has only one camera, unlike the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max with dual cameras.

Both smartphones have 12 megapixel main lenses, but the S10E has a double aperture, which is very good for shooting in low light.

The Galaxy S10e has an extraWide-angle 16 Mp f / 2.2 lens, which is perfect for panoramic and group shots. If you like to take pictures, you will definitely appreciate this lens. Although the best photo editors are available only for iPhone XR.

The front of the Galaxy S10e 10 MP f / 1.9 selfie camera, and iPhone XR - 7 MP camera TrueDepth. The front camera S10e supports Dual Pixel Autofocus technology, thanks to which the images are clearer. In addition, this is the world's first smartphone that can record 4K video on the front camera.

Not everyone will be delighted with the processing system.selfie on the Galaxy S10e, because it imposes a smoothing effect on the face. The iPhone XR also uses a “beauty filter”, but it’s not as intrusive as Samsung’s.

Biometric authentication

  • iPhone XR - Face ID
  • Galaxy S10e - Fingerprint Scanner, Face Recognition

The iPhone XR has only the Face ID, and the Galaxy S10ealong with face recognition there is also a fingerprint scanner. Unlike the Galaxy S10, the S10e scanner is not built into the display, but located on the right side of the smartphone.

Face Detection Galaxy S10e is faster than Face ID, but less secure. On the other hand, you will always have a fingerprint scanner option with good protection.

Connection

  • iPhone XR - SIM / eSIM, LTE, Wi-Fi ac MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, VoLTE, NFC with read mode
  • Galaxy S10e - Dual SIM, 2 GB / s LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, VoLTE, NFC, 3.5mm Headphone Jack

Here the Galaxy S10e is an obvious winner. The smartphone has an LTE modem with a speed of up to 2 GB / s - twice as much as the iPhone XR. Other technologies at the smartphone are also better, including Wi-Fi 6.

For comparison, the iPhone XR only supports gigabit LTE, which means its speed is much lower. In addition, the Galaxy S10e connection will catch better.

The Galaxy S10 e also has a headphone jack, while the iPhone XR has only a Lightning connector.

Memory

  • iPhone XR - 64/256/512 GB
  • Galaxy S10e - 128/256 GB, microSD slot

This is another area in which Galaxy wins.S10e. Despite its cheapness, even the basic version of the smartphone has 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of memory. In addition, there is a slot for a microSD memory card, so that the memory can be increased. For comparison, the basic version of the iPhone XR still contains 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of memory, which is too little for a smartphone.

Battery

The iPhone XR has a 2942 mAh battery and the Galaxy S10e has a 3100 mAh battery.

Despite this, the iPhone XR will last longer than the Galaxy S10e. The LCD display does not consume as much power as Super AMOLED, which greatly affects the charge rate.

Galaxy S10e wins in terms of charging speed. Samsung did not improve the speed of wired charging, but the S10e at least comes with a 15 watt power adapter, not 5 watts like the iPhone XR.

Both smartphones support wireless charging standard Qi, but here the Galaxy S10e also wins, because it can be charged at a speed of 12 watts. This is better than 7.5 watts on the iPhone XR.

In addition, the S10e supports reverseWireless charging, like the other two options, with which it can be used to charge Galaxy buds headphones and other accessories. Using the function, you can charge other smartphones, but this is not very practical. You can even charge your Galaxy S10e and simultaneously charge another device from it.

Price

In the US, both smartphones cost from $ 749, but the Galaxy S10e is better in many ways and supports more features, so it is the best offer for that kind of money.
