Iran Admits Using Cryptocurrency to Pay for Imports

Iran has announced the use of cryptocurrency to pay for imports, so the country usesDigital

assets to circumvent sanctions. It is reported by The Register.Discuss

Commerce Minister Alireza Peyman Park announced the deal via Twitter, where he wrote that "the first official import order was successfully placed this weekBy the end of September, the use of cryptocurrenciesand smart contracts will be widespread in foreign trade with target countries."

It is not clear what Peman Pak meant bywidespread use of cryptocurrencies in foreign trade, it is also unclear which countries are meant by “target”. However, the purpose of the announcement seems clear: Iran will use the cryptocurrency to settle cross-border transactions.
