Is it true that budget motherboards based on the H610 chipset do not “pull” expensive Intel processors?

Experts from the i2HARD YouTube channel tested assemblies with motherboards H610M-K D4, H610M-HDV/M.2, H610M S2H DDR4, H610M-G DDR4 and

processor Core i5-12400. To do this, they were launched in game projects and benchmarks. Discuss

As part of the review, the authors of the i2HARD channel tested four options for inexpensive motherboards: H610M-K D4, H610M-HDV / M.2, H610M S2H DDR4, H610M-G DDR4. All four builds were based on the Core i5-12400 processor.

Worst timings – the Asus Prime H610M-K D4 motherboard, followed by MSI PRO H610M-G DDR4, Gigabyte H610M S2H DDR4. The best result is shown by ASRock H610M-HDV/M.2.

In the CPU-Z test, differences between motherboardsalmost not. The same goes for Cinebench R23. In Geekbench, the worst result is in multi-threaded mode – on the Asus motherboard, in Premiere Pro it also turns out to be worse than the others (though only by a couple of percent).

Asus also lags behind other boards in terms of playPrime H610M-K D4. In Cyberpunk, its average performance is 73 fps (compared to 76 fps for ASRock, 76 fps for Gigabyte and 75 fps for MSI), in Far Cry 6 – 101 fps (ASRock – 102 fps, Gigabyte and MSI – 103 fps). It must be said that SC: Survivors has the worst average results – ASRock (79 fps versus 80 fps for Asus and MSI), the best – Gigabyte (81 fps).

In general, the Gigabyte H610M S2H DDR4 motherboard turned out to be the best, on which you do not need to remove the limits of the processor.

Next, the experts moved on to overclocking. When overclocking the processor, performance deteriorated greatly.

After overclocking the motherboards, test resultsthe games have changed little. As for programs, the Asus model showed the worst result in Geekbench due to the lack of processor instructions, the same – in Adobe Premiere.

Cyberpunk 2077 has the best average FPSreleased by ASRock (85 fps versus 84 fps by Asus, 83 fps by MSI and 82 fps by Gigabyte), in Far Cry 6 – in ASRock and Asus (but the difference between them and other motherboards is minimal: 112 fps versus 111 fps), in SC: Survivors – for MSI (87 fps versus 86 fps in other cases).

Conclusion

In general, each of the tested maternalboard has its advantages. The Gigabyte H610M S2H DDR4 does not need to remove processor limits, it has the best VRM, two fan connectors. Asus has high timings and only one additional fan connector, does not support DisplayPort, AVX-512. ASRock is generally very good, but it has fewer USB ports than others, a limit of 65 W out of the box, but it is possible to connect a Wi-Fi module with antennas and three additional fans. MSI also has a weak VRM and only one fan header.
