It is reported that during the inspection of the Russiansegment of the ISS, the astronauts discovered 131 places that are in the most vulnerable position to corrosion, two of which are located in the toilet.
”The maximum growth of microorganisms is more oftenwas found in areas classified as “cold”, in which there was a high probability of atmospheric moisture condensation,” – indicated in the research material.
Scientists noted the need to create newmeans of “monitoring tools for identified corrosion damage to the pressure vessel and the process of monitoring the residual thickness of the pressure vessel.” The All-Russian Research Institute of Physical, Technical and Radio Engineering Measurements will develop modern equipment for determining corrosion. Next, the development will be tested at the station.
