IT professions are constantly advertised, but there are still not enough personnel. Now let's explain why

How many IT specialists are not enough in Russia and the world

Why the lack of IT specialists affects the economy

?The IT industry is a complex market and affects a large number of different areas. For example, during the pandemic, the telemedicine market, where IT solutions are used, has become in demand. In 2021, this segment grew by 9.7% to 4.95 million teleconsultations.

Another example is office software:according to NAFI, more than a third of Russian companies use such domestic IT solutions. If there are not enough specialists to develop and maintain such products, this will affect other business processes. And a wider shortage of IT professionals will reduce the development of the digital economy.

IT development and digitalization did not end afterpandemics. Many traditional market sectors have just begun to try out the possibilities of digital technologies. Digitalization in Russia is growing, but the main changes are yet to come. First of all, they will be associated with an increase in the number of senior specialists - the market already lacks them.

“IT development and digitalization did not end after the pandemic”

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs for June, due to departure abroadRussian companies lack approximately 170,000 IT developers. And now the IT industry employs about 1 million people. It will take a long time to close the gap between supply and demand. For example, mastering the basic knowledge base will take at least six months.

But basic digital education is needed not onlyIT people. All jobs are becoming multi-disciplined: IT skills are needed by teachers, doctors and builders. Also, according to the Open University of Israel, digital skills develop creativity and computational thinking. And PCs and smart devices have already penetrated into all areas of our lives. The ability to work with them will add additional value to the employee.

IT education requires application programs, practice oriented. But for senior growth, at least four more years of practice are needed. During this time, you need to gain new knowledge - technologies are constantly evolving, and the requirements for IT professionals are constantly growing.

There is a shortage of developers not only in Russia.According to Microsoft, in 2020 the global IT market lacked over 30 million specialists. By 2025, 190 million will not be enough. Classical educational institutions will not be able to fill this gap.

Another problem is the relocation of qualifiedspecialists. But it can be solved with the help of special support and development programs for resident personnel. For example, the UAE has implemented the One Million Arab Coders program - “One Million Arab Coders”. The Dubai government has developed an initiative to form a pool of developers who will help the Arab world move into the digital age.

In Uzbekistan, since 2019, a similarprogram for learning the basics of programming online. It registered 2.5 million people, more than a million received certificates of completion of studies.

Another way is grants for development indomestic industry from large IT companies. This method is popular abroad: a striking example is the Spanish financial and credit group Banco Santander. In 2021, the company donated more than 160 million euros to educate 162,000 students. Among them are future IT specialists.

Russian companies also support IT people. For example, SKB-Kontur has grants for organizations that train student programmers. Sber offers financing to specialists under 30 who have a promising IT project.

Russia also developed a program in 2022support for the IT industry, according to which specialists receive preferential mortgages, deferment from the army, free training in the most popular skills. There are also regional programs. For example, Technograd offers Muscovites modern career guidance and training for a new profession, advanced training and gaining skills in popular specialties.

What to do to eliminate the deficit

The main way is informing about IT. Not all Russians know what kind of specialists there are, how the sphere is developing, how promising it is, what investments it attracts and what salaries are here.

But the secondary education system does not provide the necessarybase of digital skills. According to NAFI, less than a third of Russians have a high level of digital literacy. The rest of the country's residents are poorly versed in the future of technology and the entire IT industry, which means they underestimate the prospects. And they associate learning new skills with a long and difficult process.

The situation is changed by modern learning operators, focusing on the amount of knowledge to start a career. They offer programs that develop basic programming skills in parallel with work: they usually need to be devoted to several hours a day.

To train so many specialists, the state strengthens information activity and introduces financial compensation for students. For example, the Digital Professions project, which co-finances more than 100 courses for different categories of citizens.

Due to low awareness on replenishmentshortage of IT specialists will take more than five years. Players from this area are now attracting new users and increasing the level of knowledge about IT. This already leads to the fact that parents are increasingly thinking about the future of children associated with IT. According to the Ministry of Digital Development, seven out of ten parents in 2022 expect their child to choose a digital profession.

IT prospects: what to bet on

IT attracts many people due to rising salaries.According to Zarplan, in 2022, an IT specialist earns on average 373 thousand rubles per month. But this is not the limit. HR has vacancies for senior specialists with salaries above 600 thousand rubles.

Here is how the average salaries were distributed by individual positions (data from a study by the HR agency RealHR):

  • golang-developer— 300,000 rubles for the position of senior specialist.
  • C++ developer- from 150,000 rubles for the position of a middle specialist, 300,000 rubles for a senior specialist.
  • PHP Developer— 250,000 rubles for the senior position.
  • product manager— 152,500 rubles for a middle position, 287,500 rubles for a senior position.
  • Interface developer—100,000 rubles for junior, 250,000 rubles for senior.
  • DevOps Specialist— 300,000 rubles for the senior position.
  • QA/QC engineer— 100,000 rubles — junior.
  • iOS developer— 130,000 rubles — junior, 205,000 rubles — middle, 300,000 rubles — senior.
  • Android developer— 200,000 rubles — middle, 300,000 rubles — senior.

But choosing IT only because of salaries is wrongan approach. The right bet is not on quick earnings, but on the demand, the prospects of the profession. If a specialist looks at the profession in terms of prospects and growth, and not get rich quick, then he has additional options, for example, change the industry or go to his own startup.

Salary level and demandIT professionals in Russia will only grow. Closer to autumn, a rapid increase in both demand and wages in rubles is predicted. If the exchange rate fluctuates, salaries will rise even more.
