The origin of water on Earth has always been a mystery. There are various hypotheses and theories to explain how
According to the assessment of the authors of the article - Italian andChinese astronomers - the origin of water is not so mysterious, because its presence is characteristic of protoplanetary disks. And it was from it that the water we drink today came from.
A protoplanetary disk or proplyd is a rotating circumstellar disk of dense gas around a young, newly formed star. One example is the Sun and its system of planets.
According to the study, water originated on Earthas a result of a four-step process. It all started with a cloud that consisted mainly of hydrogen with some helium, oxygen and carbon. The oxygen in the cloud then came into contact with the dust. It froze and stuck to the surface. This caused the lighter hydrogen molecules in the cloud to “jump” across the frozen dust grains until they collided with oxygen. This interaction then formed water ice. Scientists called this phase “cold.”
Then gravity began to “work”,and the matter stuck together in the center. When more mass fell into the center of the cloud, a protostar was born. Then the temperature of the gas and dust in the cloud reached 100 Kelvin (-173.15), which led to sublimation, as a result, the ice turned into water vapor. This is the protostar phase.
During the third phase, water ice, whichformed in the first stage and turned into gas in the second, and again turned into ice in the coldest corners of the protoplanetary disk. The dust grains were again covered with an icy mantle.
When did the solar system begin to resemble morea fully formed system with planets, asteroids and comets, the fourth phase has begun. In these objects, water already existed in its current state, just as it does on Earth. Based on this data, scientists said that water is 4.5 billion years old, like the planet.
