It turned out that quantum communication in space is real: perhaps earthlings are already being given a signal

A team of physicists from the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Edinburgh used mathematical

calculations to show that in interstellarspace, the existence of a quantum connection is possible. In an article published in the journal Physical Review D, scientists described the progress of the study, as well as the possibility that extraterrestrial beings are trying to communicate with us using such signals.

Over the past few years, scientists have been studyingthe possibility of using quantum communication as a highly secure form of message transmission. Previous studies have shown that it is almost impossible to intercept such messages. In the new paper, the researchers asked whether similar types of communications are possible in interstellar space.

To figure it out they used math, which describes the movement of X-rays through a medium, such as those that travel between stars. In other words, they wanted to see if their calculations could show the degree of decoherence that might occur during such a journey.

When using quantum communications, engineersencounter quantum particles that lose some or all of their unique characteristics when interacting with obstacles in their path - they have actually proven to be quite fragile. Such events are known as decoherence, and engineers working on quantum networks are trying to overcome these problems. Previous studies have shown that the space between stars is quite clear. But is this enough for quantum communication? It turned out that yes.

In fact, the cosmos is so pure thatX-ray photons can travel hundreds of thousands of light-years without decohering—and this includes gravitational interference from astrophysical bodies. In this case, the optical and microwave ranges will work equally well.

Since quantum communication is real throughoutgalaxy, other intelligent beings in the Milky Way may already be trying to communicate with us through it. The scientists also suggested that quantum teleportation through interstellar space is also possible in theory.
