James Webb photographed the infrared galaxy Arp 220, which is 1 trillion brighter than the sun

The James Webb Space Telescope was able to capture an unusual galaxy. It's called Arp 220 and it's different

ultra-high brightness.

What is known

Object Arp 220 was the result of a collisiontwo spiral galaxies that began about 700 million years ago. It is located in the constellation Serpens at a distance of 250 million light years from Earth and is the closest ultra-bright infrared galaxy to us.

Collision of two spiral galaxiestriggered a burst of star formation. In particular, in a region of cosmic dust 5,000 light-years across (5% of the diameter of the Milky Way), scientists have discovered about two hundred massive star clusters. Approximately 100 supernova remnants have also been discovered in a region 500 light years across.

The nuclei of merging galaxies are at a distance1200 light years apart. This was established thanks to the Hubble Orbital Telescope. The luminosity of the object Arp 220 exceeds the luminosity of the Sun by more than 1 trillion times.
