Japan and Finland begin 6G research

An international team of scientists from Japan and Finland will develop standards for future 6G technologies

as part of a joint researchagreement between the two countries, the University of Tokyo announced. Over the next few years, a development plan for the 6G standard will be created and research into the components of the technology will be conducted.

According to the University of Tokyo, someareas of life that will be greatly improved by 6G, – This is healthcare, where embedded low-power sensors can transmit real-time health data to doctors.

Another area of application of 6G – liquidationconsequences of natural disasters, since integration with satellite platforms means that in the event of damage to ground infrastructure, basic communications can be maintained through the satellite network. This is especially important for countries such as Japan, which face numerous natural hazards – earthquakes, tsunamis, floods and even volcanic eruptions.

In addition, the new partnership aims to bringsignificant contribution to global standardization and regulatory development of 6G technology. South Korea, China, the European Union and the United States are also launching projects, programs and alliances related to 6G development. Initial commercial deployment of 6G technology is expected between 2028 and 2029, according to consultancy ABI Research.
