JetZero's first aircraft will be the Z-5.It is expected to replace the Boeing 767 and is designed to carry at least 250 passengers. The flight range will be more than 5,000 nautical miles (9,260 km). While the Boeing 767 has a wingspan of 48 m, the Z-5 will have a wingspan of almost 61 m. However, it will still operate at any airport that can serve the Airbus A330. He will use off-the-shelf engines that don’t require anything special.
Whether the JetZero aircraft will win the NASA competition will be known in the summer.
"Mixed wing" isa type of “flying wing” aerodynamic design. In a “mixed wing” the fuselage is wide and clearly flat. It flows smoothly into a pair of wide wings, with no clear dividing line separating the wing from the body.

The fuselage itself creates much more liftstrength than a conventional tubular shape, so no larger wing surface is required. It is aerodynamically stable, so it does not require a tail wing. All these factors add up to reduce drag and weight of the aircraft. There is more space inside for cargo and passengers, and the seating arrangement is more like a theater than a regular airliner. In addition, the engines can be mounted on top, which significantly reduces the noise level both in the cabin and on the ground (example in the photo above).
