The team found that whenreplication of repetitive DNA, the mechanism could not always copy the opposite strand of DNA. This error can stop replication and even cause the replication mechanism to collapse.
DNA damage and subsequent genomic instability contribute to the formation and progression of cancer, so the study strengthens the link between junk DNA and cancer.
