A Jurassic creature similar to a vampire squid used super suction cups to snatch
Scientists use advanced techniques for the first time3D visualization for a detailed study of the clinging suckers of Vampyronassa rhodanica, an extinct relative of the modern vampire squid (Vampyroteuthis infernalis). During the analysis, the researchers identified features of the animal's internal anatomy that had not been observed before. The scientists reported their results in the journal Scientific Reports.
“U V. rhodanica was a combination of anatomical features not found today,” study first author Alison Rowe told Live Science.

The three fossils featured in the study arediscovered in La Voulte-sur-Rhone, a world-famous fossil “repository” located in southeastern France. The site is approximately 164 million years old, meaning it dates from the mid-Jurassic period (201.3 to 145.5 million years ago) and contains many different fossilized marine organisms.
