The investigation revealed that Sylvain Lesne, the author of the 2006 study, several times
This is an article that is cited by more than 2,200 scientific papers. It describes the Aβ*56 protein, which is proposed to be used as a target for the fight against Alzheimer's disease.
Aβ*56 is amyloid beta. Beta amyloids are proteins that accumulate in the brain. This process is associated with the development of Alzheimer's disease.
Matthew Schrag, University neuroscientistVanderbilt, first reported his concerns about the job in January 2022. Science asked two image analysis experts to review Lesne's published work. They confirmed the fears.
Experts identified a total of 20suspicious papers authored by Lesne, 10 of them dealt with the Aβ*56 protein. Science said the original images should be examined for possible distortions.
Elizabeth Bick, forensic scientistimages, believes that images from a study in which mice were injected with beta-amyloid into their brains appear to have been altered to "better fit the hypothesis."
An analysis of the set of source data raised and a survey of the authors showed that the pictures were edited, including changing parts of them.
