Lenovo Yoga S940 - fashion ultraportableNotebook with a metal case in compact dimensions. It is equipped with a 14-inch IPS FullHD-display with thin frames around the perimeter, a face recognition system of the owner and the usual filling for this class of devices. The processor of the Whiskey Lake Intel Core i5-8265U family, 16 GB of RAM, SSD with PCIe interface at 512 GB. Of the ports, there is only Type-C with support for Thunderbolt 3. They promise up to 15 hours of battery life.
</ p>What is included?
Packaging and delivery are common forLenovo laptops. A larger box with the whole kit and a smaller box with the laptop itself. The set is minimal: the laptop itself, a compact 65 W power supply, a removable power cable and documentation. Given the cost, some kind of case and Type-C dock would not be amiss:

How does the Lenovo Yoga S940 look and assemble?
</ img>
Worth giving credit to engineers, Lenovo Yoga S940It looks and feels really expensive and soundly, largely due to the use of a high-quality alloy of aluminum with a matte finish. The laptop turned out to be light: about 1.2 kg, while nothing bends anywhere, it feels monolithic. The whole body is gray, on the cover - only the logo of the Yoga line:
</ img>
The case is very thin: 12.2 mm, although this is not a record. The shape of the laptop is wedge-shaped and it is interestingly used in the design, which we will recall a little later. Like most modern ultraportable image laptops, Lenovo Yoga S940 lacks full-sized connectors. In this case, there are only four. On the right side are two USB Type-C with Thunredbolt 3 support:
</ img>
There is nothing interesting behind. The hinge occupies almost the entire width:
</ img>
On the right side is another Type-C USB 3.1 Gen 1 for charging and a combined 3.5 mm audio jack. On this, the wired means of communication of the laptop with the outside world ends:
</ img>
The front face is made interesting. In the middle of the end of the top cover, the company made a peculiar protrusion on which the name of the series is engraved. But this thing is not only for beauty: it is convenient to pry a laptop cover with your finger when opening it. As we remember, the profile of the laptop is wedge-shaped with a slope, thanks to this the protrusion just fits into the linear dimensions of the laptop and does not “stick out”:

</ img>
The stereo speakers in the laptop were marked on the sides of the keyboard unit, which is not so common in ultrabooks on Windows:
</ img>
Below are also visible grids of these very speakers, andalso perforation of the cooling system. In front, the laptop rests on two elongated rubberized legs. At the back - one long, for most of the width of the laptop:
</ img>
Another interesting decorative element -protective glass of the display: it has rounded edges, as in smartphones. It does not bring practical benefit, but it looks very aesthetically pleasing. The frame around the screen is thin, which made it possible to cram 14-inches into the case, which is more familiar in size for 13.3-inch models. In addition to the webcam, an infrared sensor also fits above the screen to recognize the owner by the face and the operation of Glance software. It tracks eye movements with an IR camera and can do a couple of useful things. For example, automatically lock the laptop if you get up because of the workplace. Or move program windows between connected screens if you look at the desired panel. The latter could not be verified: a monitor with Thunderbolt was not at hand.

Lenovo Yoga S940 looks and feels expensive, rich, as it was intended by engineers. With the assembly, of course, everything is fine.
</ p>How convenient is it to use a laptop?
</ img>
The hinge in the Lenovo Yoga S940 is very good: Of course, it allows you to open the laptop with one hand, the display does not stagger, it holds well in the required position. And also there is something reminiscent of the sensations of auto-start when closing a laptop. You can open approximately 145 °. The keyboard is typical for Lenovo laptops, both by recognizable curvatures at the bottom of the buttons, and by the layout. Long Shift, one-story Enter, reduced in height the upper row of function buttons, the arrow block is not separated from the main, and the down and up arrows are reduced in height. Home, End, PgUp, PgDn are combined with arrows. The power button is separated from the keyboard unit, it has a thin oblong shape, located in the upper right corner:
</ img>
Due to the small thickness of the laptop, the keys movealso small: about 1 mm. The pressures are generally informative, but the first day still goes into getting used to such a short stroke. There is a white backlight with two brightness levels. It is uniform, all characters are visible very well.

The touchpad in the Lenovo Yoga S940 laptop is not a record, but its average size is offset by excellent sensitivity and coverage. During the use of the desire or the need to connect the mouse did not arise.

How good is the screen?
Lenovo Yoga S940 has a 14-inchIPS-display with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 and a protective glass, promise a maximum brightness of 400 cd / m². In the top configurations, 4K-matrices with support for the VESA DisplayHDR 400 standard and a maximum brightness of 500 cd / m² are installed. The screen is very high quality, with excellent viewing angles, a very juicy picture and very impressive brightness. The only minor complaint is the use of glass for the sake of aesthetics. Yes, it's beautiful, but it’s pretty glare.
</ img>
According to the results of measurements, the maximum brightnessamounted to 393.689 cd / m², which almost corresponds to the declared 400. The black field brightness is 0.346 cd / m2, and the static contrast is 1138: 1. At the same time, the screen is very intelligently calibrated and deviations from the reference values are minimal:

What about performance, autonomy and sound?
</ img>
Any kind of exotic in terms of “iron” inYoga S940 no: typical configuration of a modern ultrabook. Our configuration uses a processor of the Whiskey Lake family with integrated Intel Core i5-8265U graphics. This is a 14-nm quad-core processor with support for 8 threads HyperThreading, 6 MB SmartCache. The clock frequency is 1.6 GHz (up to 3.9 GHz Turbo Boost). The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 chip with a frequency of up to 1100 MHz is responsible for the graphics. I do not exclude that on the approach and updated configurations on Intel processors of the 10th generation, although if it is Comet Lake, then the difference will be minimal. RAM - 16 GB, using LPDDR-2133. Wireless interfaces: Wi-Fi 802.11 AC (2 × 2) and Bluetooth 5.0.

We have already seen laptops with a similar configurationwagon and small trolley. No revelations on performance, everything is familiar: enough for “office” applications. It’s comfortable to work with documents, mail, instant messengers, and a browser. Basic image editing in Photoshop is also no problem. Benchmark results are appropriate:

The drive uses a 512 GB SSD NVMe PCIe Gen3 x4. This is the Samsung PM981:
</ img>
The drive works very quickly. The read speed is just over 3550 MB / s, and the write speed is about 1900 MB / s:

I was very pleased with the laptop cooling system. Both its efficiency and quiet operation. The AIDA64 stress test showed that at maximum load, the system temperature rises to 64 ° at first, and after adaptation of the cooling system it is kept at 60 °. Of course, there can be no talk of any throttling. The case gets a little warm over the keyboard. At the same time, the SO remains quiet, it is almost inaudible:
</ img>
The ultrabook has a 52 Wh battery. They promise up to 15 hours of operation (for a model with 4K this indicator is 10 hours), the function of fast charging from a 65 W complete power supply is supported. In a typical operating mode, with a constant Wi-Fi connection and using Chrome with a bunch of tabs, Photoshop and playing music with headphones, the laptop works for about 7 hours. Not bad, but there are competitors who can withstand the whole working day.
</ img>
Dolby Atmos-enabled laptop audio systemIt sounds quite convincing, given the dimensions of the laptop. The speakers do not “wheeze” even at maximum volume, and even something similar to low frequencies can be traced. For movies and videos, more than enough. To configure there is a corresponding application:

</ img>
In addition to the aforementioned Glance software for working withAn infrared camera also has the Vantage application standard for all Lenovo laptops. The application displays the current state of the laptop (including antiviruses), there are driver updates, power settings, cooling systems and other useful things:

In the dry residue
Lenovo Yoga S940 is positioned as a fashionultra-portable laptop and it fully lives up to its “status". It looks gorgeous, made of quality materials, perfectly assembled, compact and lightweight. It is equipped with a very high-quality display with a good supply of brightness, not top-end, but quite relevant iron, an effective and very quiet cooling system, a good audio system and convenient controls. Perhaps, only full-size ports are missing, which could be forgiven if there was a dock in the kit. The configuration that we visited on the review is worth 45 000 UAH and this is quite the usual price for imageultrabook segment. But the Lenovo Yoga S940 will have to bother: there are competitors on the market who can offer more productive configurations and / or longer battery life for the same money.
