Lenovo YOGA Slim 9i Notebook Review: Business Command Center

</ img>

Lenovo YOGA Slim 9i is a flagship ultrabook, the creation of which focused on the image component. And from the point

In terms of appearance, everything turned out great.The laptop really looks original and stands out. First of all, thanks to the genuine leather on the top cover, as well as the glass underpad. Although the advantages do not end with the design. Lenovo YOGA Slim 9i has an excellent quality, bright 4K touch screen with HDR support. Inside is up-to-date and productive ultra-paper hardware, which is perfectly handled by a very quiet cooling system. And the battery life is pleasantly surprising, especially considering the 4K resolution of the display. Of the technical features, complaints arose only about the keyboard with a short and uninformative key stroke. And, of course, cost will be an important aspect. The laptop is not on sale yet, but during the announcement Lenovo announced $1,700 for the low-end configuration with a leather lid. At the moment it is aboutUAH 47,000. And this is without taxes, duties and other things, so expect a lower priceUAH 65,000perhaps not worth it.

5 reasons to buy Lenovo YOGA Slim 9i:

 • Original and stylish design using metal, leather and glass;
 • gorgeous display;
 • efficient and very quiet cooling system;
 • high performance (considering the class of the laptop);
 • long battery life.

2 reasons not to buy Lenovo YOGA Slim 9i:

 • not the most comfortable keyboard;
 • high price.

What is included?

Lenovo YOGA Slim 9i is packed in the usual gray box with the YOGA logo. The set is minimal. Laptop, compact 65W power supply and detachable power cable:

What does the Lenovo YOGA Slim 9i look like and assembled?

</ img>

Lenovo YOGA Slim 9i is positioned asflagship image ultrabook. And the materials used are appropriate. The main part of the body is made of metal, and the palm area was decided to be made of glass. It has an oleophobic coating and is almost completely covered with small relief dots. Only the Glass Sense touchpad remained smooth, which is located under the same glass and is in no way physically separated from the entire glass pad under the palm. But the most interesting thing is the lid. It is covered with natural leather. According to the company, thanks to a special processing technology, the leather retains its original texture and appearance, while being durable. It has an embossed YOGA logo in the upper left corner and Lenovo in the lower right.

</ img>

The case has the usual for ultrabookswedge-shaped. At its thickest point the thickness is 14.6 mm. The ends have an interesting finish with a barely noticeable polishing, which subconsciously gives a feeling of being expensive. The Lenovo YOGA Slim 9i has a very modest number of connectors. On the right side there is only one USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4. Among other things, next to it is a slider to turn off the webcam and a power button. Quite a strange place, considering that this is not a transformer. On the other hand, the laptop has a function that automatically turns on when the lid is opened, so in this case it is not critical.

</ img>

Almost the entire width of the rear end is occupied by the hinge:

</ img>

On the right side there are two more USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4 and a combined 3.5 mm audio jack. You can charge the laptop via any of the USB Type-C:

</ img>

On the front edge there is a small ledge engraved with the name of the series. Already a familiar design element of Lenovo Ultrabooks lately. The same ledge will come in handy to open the laptop:

</ img>

The stereo speakers in the laptop were placed on the sides of the keyboard, which is not so often found in such compact models. Although, in fact, the keyboard was not damaged. It is quite standard in size:

</ img>

The bottom cover of the Lenovo YOGA Slim 9i has a largeperforated area for the cooling system, and rubberized feet for stability. At the same time, at the back there is a whole rubberized strip almost the entire width of the laptop:

</ img>

The bezels around the perimeter of the screen are very thin, likerelies on the flagship model. In our configuration, the screen is protected by glass with rounded edges, just like on smartphones. The webcam is located in its usual place, it is complemented by two microphones, an IR camera and a light sensor. An IR camera is used to recognize the wearer's face. If you turn off the camera with the slider, then the recognition function will not be available, you will have to enter a password. The light sensor is used to automatically adjust the brightness of not only the display, but also the keyboard backlight (in the appropriate mode).

</ img>

Lenovo YOGA Slim 9i looks, build and feelsexactly as the engineers intended. Very expensive and solid. A kind of analogue of executive class cars. Everything is done really well. The only question is how hard the leather on the lid really is. For a couple of weeks of use, this is impossible to estimate.

</ p>

How convenient is it to use a laptop?

</ img>

The laptop can be rotated 180 °.The hinge is very nice: the laptop can be opened with one hand. At the same time, the fixation in the desired position is reliable, the display does not dangle. The keyboard is typical of most Lenovo notebooks (except for the ThinkPad line). The shape of the buttons is familiar, with a rounded bottom. The layout is also familiar from previous models. Long Shift, single-storey Enter, the top row of function buttons reduced in height, the block of arrows is not separated from the main one, and the up and down arrows are reduced in height. Home, End, PgUp, PgDn are aligned with arrows.

</ img>

The buttons have a very short and soft travel.And it takes significantly less force to trigger than most ultrabooks today. As a result, the information content suffers greatly: it is difficult to understand whether he pressed the button at all. In short, the keyboard takes a certain amount of time to get used to. At the same time, there are a bunch of comparable in size models with more comfortable keys.

The backlighting of the keys is white. It is uniform, has two levels of brightness (plus off) and a separate automatic mode, for which the aforementioned light sensor is responsible.

</ img>

We got to the most interesting part of the workinglaptop surface: glass palm with built-in Glass Sense touchpad. In fact, this is one piece of glass, on which the touchpad area was left smooth, and the rest of the area is dotted with small relief dots. It feels quite comfortable. But, even despite the presence of an oleophobic coating, traces of use remain. According to Lenovo, this solution allowed for a larger touchpad. According to personal feelings, there is no significant difference in size. However, everything is in order with the sensitivity and positioning accuracy and the touchpad did not cause any questions during use. Another feature is the rejection of mechanical buttons. Instead, a tactile feedback system is used that simulates pressing. Feels interesting and quite believable.

How good is the screen?

Lenovo YOGA Slim 9i has an IPS display with14 inches diagonal. In the low-end configuration it is 1920×1080 with a color gamut of 72% NTSC, 100% sRGB and a brightness of 400 cd/m². We also received a top-end configuration with a 4K touch display. They promise a color gamut of 90% of the DCI-P3 color space, support for VESA HDR400 and Dolby Vision. The maximum declared brightness is 500 cd/m². Visually, the screen is truly impressive, both in picture quality and brightness. You may only have to turn it up to maximum in bright sunshine. Of course, viewing angles are maximum. The touch screen, accordingly, is covered with protective glass, so glare cannot be avoided.

</ img>

Measurements showed that the maximum brightnessis 475.13 cd/m², which is close to the stated 500. The black field brightness is 0.439 cd/m2, and the static contrast is 1082:1. With color rendering, everything is also in perfect order. The color gamut is indeed wider than the usual sRGB. The remaining indicators are close to the reference values. There is a bias towards cool shades, but it is minimal. Color temperature - 7000K with reference 6500K.

What about performance, autonomy and sound?

</ img>

Lenovo YOGA Slim 9i received Intel certificationEvo. According to the main idea, this certification should make life easier for a person when choosing a flagship laptop for work. The laptop must meet a number of requirements. Specifically, it must have an 11th Gen Intel i5 or i7 processor with Intel Xe graphics. At least 8 GB of RAM in dual-channel mode, NVMe SSD of at least 256 GB, battery life of more than 9 hours (FullHD), a screen with a resolution of at least FullHD, wake-up time of less than a second, have support for Wi-Fi 6 and Thunderbolt 4 and etc.

In our configuration Lenovo YOGA Slim 9iIntel 11th generation Tiger Lake Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor installed. It is produced using the 10nm SuperFin process technology, includes four cores, and supports multi-threaded computing (HyperThreading) with eight threads. The base frequency can range from 1.2 to 2.8 GHz depending on the TDP. TDP can vary from 12 to 28 W. In Turbo Boost mode, the frequency can reach 4.7 GHz per core and 4.2 GHz for all cores. The integrated Intel Iris Xe accelerator is responsible for the graphics, which includes 96 execution units, and the maximum frequency can reach 1300 MHz. This is certainly not discrete game graphics. But you can play most popular games on the Intel Iris Xe without any problems. For example, DOOM 2016 at medium settings produces an average of about 60 fps. RAM 16 GB LPDDR4X 4266 MHz. Of course, there is support for Wi-Fi 6 (2×2 802.11 ax), Bluetooth 5.1 and three Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports up to 40 Gbps.

Lenovo YOGA Slim 9i demonstrates in benchmarksa very good level of performance for its class of devices. And from my personal experience, the laptop is very fast when working with office applications; a browser with a ton of tabs does not cause any inconvenience to it, and there are no problems with Photoshop.

The drive used is a 1 TB NVMe PCIe Gen3 x4 SSD. Model Samsung PM981a:

The drive is very fast. Read speed is up to 3550 MB/s, write speed is about 3000 MB/s:

The cooling system turned out to be extremely successful.In the AIDA64 stress test, even under prolonged loads, the temperature of the components is kept at 52 °. At the same time, there is practically no noise. To hear how the fan works, I had to bring my ear close to the laptop. The case heats up a little in the area above the keyboard, everything else remains cold.

</ img>

Lenovo YOGA Slim 9i has a battery63.5 W*h. They promise up to 12 hours of operation (for the FullHD model this figure is stated to be 20 hours), the fast charging function is supported from the included 65 W power supply. In typical work mode, with office-friendly brightness (about 30%), constant Wi-Fi connection and using Chrome with a bunch of tabs, Photoshop and streaming music in headphones, the laptop lasted just over 8 hours. A very impressive figure for a model with a 4K screen.

</ img>

The stereo speakers sound very good and loud, likefor such dimensions. But you shouldn't wait for deep bass and good detail: there are no miracles. For customization, there is a Dolby Atmos application with presets and the ability to adjust the equalizer.

</ img>

</ img>

The laptop's screen supports Dolby Vision and there's a corresponding little utility with three presets for relevant content.

</ img>

For general configuration, monitoring and updating of the laptop, the Lenovo Vantage application is used, which is used in all laptops of the company:

The bottom line is. Three things you need to know about the Lenovo YOGA Slim 9i:

 • Lenovo YOGA Slim 9i is a fashionable ultrabook with an original design.
 • It is equipped with the latest hardware and a great 4K display, and the battery gives it an impressive battery life.
 • The weak point of the laptop is not a very comfortable keyboard with a short and very soft, uninformative key travel.
