Less than 0.5% of patients receive hepatitis C therapy in Russia

In a report dedicated to monitoring government procurement of drugs for the treatment of hepatitis C in Russia in 2020, experts

 ITPCru found that therapy against20.3 thousand people received hepatitis C in Russia. This is 28% more than a year ago. However, the total number of people who received medical care was less than 0.5%.

In total, only 20 thousand patients were able to receive therapy in 2020.

Data on how many people there are in Russiacarry hepatitis C, vary: from 2.3 million people, according to the certificate on the implementation of the program for the complete elimination (eradication) of hepatitis C in Russia, to 4.5 million, according to the chief freelance specialist in infectious diseases of the Ministry of Health Vladimir Chulanov.  About 17 thousand Russians die from this disease every year.

In addition, domestic therapy is partiallyhas lost its relevance: the latest clinical guidelines for treatment were issued in 2018, and they mention outdated drugs and there are no actively used new treatment regimens.

It is noted that patients with hepatitis C are provided with drugs free of charge within the framework of compulsory medical insurance at the expense of the federal and regional budgets.
