Lockheed Martin has received $750.55 million for the production of a new batch of AGM-158B-2 JASSM air missiles with a range of almost 1000 km for the US and Australia

The American defense company Lockheed Martin received a contract for the production of aircraft missiles

air-to-ground AGM-158B-2 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM). The deal was announced on the official website of the US Department of Defense.

What is known

The deal amounted to approximately $750.55 million.The cost and number of missiles is not specified. According to open sources, the price of the AGM-158B-2 JASSM in fiscal year 2021 (FY) exceeded $1.25 million per unit. The agreement also includes the production of spare parts and related equipment.

The B-2 version is an extended range missileflight, i.e. JASSM-ER. It can hit targets at a maximum distance of almost 1000 km. In flight, the rocket is capable of speeds up to 1,000 km/h (Mach 0.85).

JASSM customers are the US Air Force and the Royal Australian Air Force. The Australian Government recently approved the purchase of the JASS-ER. Over five years, funding will total AU$558 million ($380 million).

Work under the contract will be carried out at factoriesLockheed Martin in Alabama and Florida through August 18, 2027. The JASSM-ER is sold to Australia through the US Military Sales Program (FMS) under the Arms Export Control Act. Australia will equip the F-35A Lightning II and F/A-18 Super Hornet fighters with the new missiles.
