Lockheed Martin integrates Patriot PAC-3 missiles into Aegis missile defense system

Lockheed Martin is preparing to test the Patriot PAC-3 interceptor as part of the Aegis missile defense system.

This was announced by Joe DePietro, the company's vice president and general managerNaval Combat and Missile Defense Systems.

What is known

American defense contractor was able to "make friends"PAC-3 with Aegis Ashore system. Tests took place during September and November last year. The company now plans to integrate the PAC-3 into the Aegis missile defense system.

PAC-3 will not be a replacement, but an addition toStandard Missile-6 (SM-6). According to Joe DiPietro, the use of PAC-3 and SM-6 will increase the flexibility of the air defense system. Additional tests will take place next year.

Lockheed Martin invests inPAC-3 upgrade for integration into the MK 41 Vertical Launch System (VLS). The company wants to modify the guidance control system to enable S-band communications.
