What is interesting Logitech MX Master 3?

</ img>

Logitech MX Master 3 - a large, unusual mouseright-handed with a 4000 DPI Darkfield sensor, which (according to the manufacturer) works on any surface, including glass. To connect, a 2.4 GHz radio channel is used (using a Unifying USB dongle) or Bluetooth. In this case, you can connect to three devices and switch between them with one button. There is also an interesting Flow function for managing several computers simultaneously, including those on different OSes. Interesting features include an electromagnetic dual-mode MagSpeed scroll wheel, which allows you to scroll up to 1000 lines per second, an additional side scroll wheel, and support for gestures using an additional button. All this can be customized individually for any application. Logitech MX Master 3 is powered by a built-in battery, which should be enough for 70 days of battery life.

What is in the box?

Logitech MX Master 3 is packaged in dark graya box with a picture of the mouse itself and the main technical features. Inside is another box made of thicker black cardboard, which contains the mouse and everything else. The kit includes the Logitech MX Master 3 itself, a Logitech Unifying USB dongle, a USB Type-C charging cable, and documentation.

What does Logitech MX Master 3 look like?

</ img>

Logitech MX Master 3 looks very unusual, although those familiar with previous models in the line will definitely recognize the outline. It is large and designed only for use with the right hand. The design uses plastic with different coatings and metal. The main part is made of dark gray plastic with a rough, as if slightly rubberized surface. The buttons are the same color, but the finish is just matte. The lower part is made of slightly lighter plastic.

</ img>

The main buttons are separated from the mouse body, whichOverall not bad, but minimal play is present. A little higher is the button, which by default switches the scroll wheel modes (with cutoffs and inertia). The wheel itself is made of stainless steel and looks very impressive.

</ img>

The layout of the side elements has changed a bit.compared to its predecessors. The side scroll wheel has become a little wider, and additional buttons are now not behind it, but a little lower. They have become more familiar form and design. And behind the side wheel is now an LED indicator.

</ img>

The thumb pad is present and a small notch is visible on it. This is an additional button for using gestures.

</ img>

Front - Type-C connector for charging the mouse.

</ img>

The mouse has no removable parts, which with oneparties are good. Less moving parts - less chance of breakage, and the design is more holistic. On the other hand, it would still be nice to think of a place for a USB transmitter in the mouse.

</ img>

The mouse has four Teflon feet on the bottom:on the sides, front and back. They are medium in size. The Darkfield sensor is located in the middle, below is the EasySwitch button for quickly switching between three devices, and above is the power slider.

</ img>

How comfortable is it?

Logitech did a really good job on the MX shapeMaster 3 and, despite its unusual appearance, it fits perfectly in the hand; my medium-sized palm rests completely on the manipulator. The only thing that requires getting used to is the very impressive weight of 141 g. It took me a couple of days to adapt. The mouse is not particularly suitable for games (especially FPS), in particular because of its weight. And the sensor is not very suitable. But the Logitech MX Master 3 is positioned as a work tool and that’s exactly what it’s perfect for.

</ img>

The main buttons are pressed easily and informatively. The additional ones are located and implemented successfully: the convex shape and their distinct separation will not allow to miss. The front one is pressed with the fingertip, the back one is pressed with a joint (in any case, it was most convenient for me). With an additional button for gestures on the platform under the thumb, there are also no special problems, the position of the hand does not have to be changed to hold it.

</ img>

Main electromagnetic scroll wheelMagSpeed is made of stainless steel and has serrations for easy use. It's not silent, but it's really quiet. By default, it works with cutoffs (not very informative) when scrolling slowly and goes into inertial mode (without cutoffs) when scrolling quickly, a function called SmartShift. It can scroll 1000 lines per second. You can customize its operating modes: lock the standard or inertial operating mode, assign a button to switch it (in the standard setting, a button above the scroll wheel). The additional scroll wheel for the thumb is implemented well, but it works smoothly, without clipping, and in some functions it will also take some getting used to. For example, if you assign it to switch tabs in Chrome, sometimes you “jump” further than necessary. But in a number of other functions (like zoom or scrolling the timeline in video editors) it works just as needed.

</ p>

What can she do?

The mouse uses a proprietary Darkfield sensor withresolution 200 – 4,000 DPI, adjustment step - 50 DPI. The maximum resolution is not a record, but it is quite enough for work. And the sensor has its own significant advantage: it can work on any surface (or almost any), including glass. Although the thickness of the glass itself should be at least 4 mm. In practice, the Logitech MX Master 3 actually feels great on all the surfaces it's offered. The connection uses a 2.4 GHz radio signal with a Unifying USB dongle or Bluetooth. There were no problems with signal stability within 5-6 meters; it was not possible to check the promised 10 meters.

</ img>

You can connect up to 3 devices and switchbetween them by pressing the EasySwitch button on the bottom of the mouse. For example, PC, laptop and “smart” TV. The mouse does not work via cable: if you remove the USB receiver from the PC and connect it with a cable, it will not work. But you can work and charge MX Master 3 in parallel by simply connecting the cable to another USB without removing the Unifying receiver. To configure the mouse, use the proprietary Logitech Options application. It is this that fully reveals the potential and capabilities of the Logitech MX Master 3. When you turn it on for the first time, the application briefly demonstrates the main available functions.

All settings are divided into three tabs. The first one, called “Mouse” allows you to assign actions to all buttons, gestures and scroll wheels. At the same time, there are both general settings and individual profiles for each application. There are ready-made presets for browsers, applications, Adobe, Microsoft Office, Final Cut, and so on. They can be edited and all this will automatically switch to the desired settings of the currently active application. This makes it possible to optimize your work in the necessary applications. For example, instead of using buttons on the keyboard to zoom or move around the timeline in a video editor, you can use an additional scroll wheel or gestures with an additional button under the thumb. In Photoshop, you can assign the brush size selection to the scroll wheel, and the Undo function to one of the additional buttons, instead of the usual Ctrl+Z combination. And there are a huge number of such opportunities. With standard settings, the middle button is responsible for switching operating modes of the main MagSpeed scroll wheel. It can be reassigned to switch mouse sensitivity and set two desired levels.

In the second tab, you can configuresensitivity of the sensor, sensitivity of the scroll wheel, invert the direction of the scroll (if necessary), enable auto-transition of the wheel to inertial mode (SmartShift) and the sensitivity of the transition, or switch to fixed mode.

Another useful feature is Flow.It allows the mouse to work simultaneously with two devices, without the need to switch. That is, by moving the cursor to the edge of the screen of one device, we move to the screen of another. At the same time, you can use the clipboard and copy data. And it even works between Windows and Mac OS computers. For the feature to work, you must install Logitech Options on both computers/laptops and connect them to the same network.

All this stuff fully works with Windows and Mac OS; only basic mouse functions work on Linux and there is no version of Logitech Options software for Linux yet.

How long does it work on a single charge?

</ img>

The mouse is powered by a built-in 500 batterymAh Logitech promises 70 days of battery life on a single charge. Fast charging is supported: it is claimed that a minute of charging will be enough for 3 hours of work. In practice, it was not possible to confirm (or refute) the stated indicators. The mouse was charged “out of the box” and after 2 weeks of use (5 days a week, full work day), the charge indicator did not lose any of the three bars. So with autonomy, everything is clearly very good.

Logitech MX Master 3 is one of the most advancedand multifunctional mice that are currently available for sale. It has a very convenient design, a Darkfield sensor that works on all surfaces, a number of additional controls and gesture support. And all this can be customized as you like to suit your needs individually for each application. The mouse is universal in terms of connection: you can use both a 2.4 GHz radio channel and Bluetooth, while connecting it to three devices, and the Flow function allows you to “seamlessly” work with two computers. MX Master 3 may not be suitable if you are an active gamer and love FPS: it is a bit heavy for these purposes, and the resolution may not be enough. The price of the mouse, which was2500 UAH(at the moment it is not available anywhere).
