Long-term living of mice with humans made them smarter

The journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B shared the results of a study by scientists, in which it turned out that

Living with humans for a long time has made them smarter.

So, the researchers [found [(https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rspb.2020.2504) that living next to a person for a long time developed the mental abilities of house mice. Moreover, it turned out that Western house mice, which adapted to places transformed by humans earlier than others, cope best with the tasks.

During the experiment, the researchers placedhouse mice of different subspecies into cages for specific tasks. For example, rodents had to open the window of the Lego house to receive a reward. It turned out that Western house mice, which became synanthropic earlier than others, cope with all the proposed tasks faster and most successfully.
