M 91 is located approximately 55 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Coma Berenices. This is a spiral galaxy with
Galaxy M 91
M 91 is an example of a spiral galaxy with a bar(jumper). Its galactic arms do not start from the center of the galaxy, but from the ends of the bar, outside the galactic core. The origin of the bar in such galaxies is still unclear.
The M 91 has a nice stripe, but it's alsohides behind a huge supermassive black hole, which is the size of our own galaxy. A 2009 study using archived Hubble data showed that this black hole weighs anywhere from 9.6 million to 38 million times more than the Sun.
M 91 belongs to the so-called "galaxies withstrings ”(long straight isolated segments of spiral arms), which were identified by B. A. Vorontsov-Velyaminov. One of the spiral arms here contains well-defined "strings" bounded on the inside by a thin dust "path".
