The three brightest objects in the night sky—the Moon, Venus and Jupiter—met early Wednesday morning (February 22)

. The Earth's natural satellite approached the “evening star” and the gas giant in the sky.

Residents of Russia were able to watch this meeting immediatelyafter sunset. This did not require special equipment or even binoculars. In those cities where there were no clouds in the sky, the Moon, Venus and Jupiter could be seen with the naked eye. Three objects lined up in a triangle.

The conjunction between the Moon and Venus has extendeduntil 00:59 GMT (03:59 Moscow time). The conjunction with Jupiter was visible until approximately 01:38 GMT (04:38 Moscow time).

During the meeting with the second planet from the Sun and the largest planet in our system, the Moon shone with a magnitude of −9.8, Venus with a magnitude of −4.0, and Jupiter with a magnitude of −2.1 (the minus prefix indicates bright objects).
