See a radiant cluster of stars captured by Hubble

The stars of the globular cluster NGC 6440 are shown in a new image from the Hubble Space Telescope. This cluster

is located at a distance of about 28,000 light years from Earth in the constellation Sagittarius.

Globular clusters such as NGC 6440 are almostspherical, tightly packed clusters of stars. They typically live on the outskirts of galaxies and contain hundreds of thousands to millions of stars. The distance between them is, on average, one light year. However, as NASA notes, they can be very close to each other - like Neptune to the Sun. On a cosmic scale this is very small.

Data used to create thisimages, astronomers obtained from five different Hubble observing programs. Four of them study the properties of pulsars. Pulsars are highly magnetized rotating neutron stars that emit a beam of electromagnetic radiation. For earthlings, this beam looks like a short flash or impulse.

Pulsars usually spin very quickly. According to research, the fastest pulsar rotates at a speed of 716 revolutions per second.
