The European Space Agency has published a new image based on observations of the

This trio is called SDSSCGB 10189 and is located inconstellation Bootes, about a billion light-years from Earth. It is a rare merger of three large galaxies in which star formation continues. The individual galaxies in this complex are less than 50,000 light-years apart. For comparison, the distance from the Milky Way to the nearest Andromeda galaxy is more than 2.5 million light years.
The researchers note that over time, the three galaxies will finally merge into a single system.At the same time, the spiral structures will be distorted due to mutual gravitational attraction during the merger process.

Astrophysicists believe that observing the systemSDSSCGB 10189 will help describe the processes associated with the origin of the largest and most massive galaxies in the universe - the brightest cluster galaxies. These galactic giants, as the researchers suggest, are formed as a result of the merger of large, gas-rich galaxies, such as those that merge in SDSSCGB 10189. Observation of the system will help confirm or refute this hypothesis.
