The latest macOS Monterey beta shows Apple working on a “High Power” to improve MacBook performance

Back in January 2020, media outlets reported that Apple was working on a new “Pro” mode that would allow MacBook users

get maximum performance, ignoring some energy saving restrictions. And now the latest macOS Monterey beta suggests that Apple is still working on a similar feature, now called “High Power”.

The first mention of the “Pro” mode werefound in macOS Catalina 10.15.3. macOS internal code described this option as something that would allow apps to run faster, and also warned of reduced battery life and increased fan noise. This feature never became available to users, and all references were removed from the beta version of macOS Monterey – up to this day.

The source found references to the new regime“High Power”, added to macOS Monterey beta 8, which was released to developers just a few hours ago. While “Low Power Mode” already exists and reduces the performance of Mac laptops to save battery power, “High Power Mode” is expected to do the opposite, allowing users to run applications at full performance even when the MacBook is not connected to nutrition.

Unfortunately, the feature remains unavailable forusers, and it is unclear whether Apple plans to introduce a “High Power Mode” for everyone or only for certain Mac models. Rumors suggest that the company will introduce new MacBook Pro models with the M1X chip later this year with improved graphics, so we can assume that the “High Power Mode” may be exclusive to new Macs.
