Malaysia's Measat-3 satellite will be de-orbited, the device will burn up the Earth's atmosphere after a mysterious "anomaly",

The device, which had been in operation for 15 years, encountered an unknown problem on June 21, causing its customers to shut down.It was placed under ground control on June 24, but the satellite was never launched.

On August 6, the Measat company announced that it decided tocontinue the deorbital operation as the satellite is not operational and the investigation into the cause of the accident is still ongoing. Measat and satellite manufacturer Boeing are participating in it.

"Further tests and measures for itsrecovery showed that the satellite could not return to service. The satellite will be de-orbited in the coming weeks, ”says an updated message from Measat. The company has not yet announced the exact timing of when it plans to burn the Measat-3.

Measat-3 was launched on December 11, 2006 fromthe Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, the same launch center from where the Soyuz spacecraft periodically send crews to the International Space Station (ISS). The spacecraft served more than 100 countries in Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Satellite TV operator Astro was among the affected customers.

Most of the clients were transferred to backup satellites by mid-July. “The satellite cannot be returned from this stage of the accident,” sources in the company said.
