Medals for the Olympic Games in Tokyo will be made from e-waste

Electronic waste can be very valuable - the circuits of old cameras, phones and other equipment contain

deposits of precious metals that can be reused.

The Japanese Olympic Committee in 2017 opened in 1594 municipalities collection points for old equipment, which, according to data for November last year, dropped about 47,488 tons of broken gadgets.

This allowed the committee to meet the need for gold for smelting medals by 93.7%, in silver - by 85.4%. The design of the medals will be presented in mid-2019, the newspaper notes.
