MegaFon will start charging money for Internet in roaming, even if data transfer is not enabled on the SIM

TelecomDaily analytical agency employee Ilya Shatilin on his personal Facebook page (owned by Meta, which

is still considered extremist in the Russian Federation and is banned)drew attention to the change in the tariff policy of the mobile operator MegaFon. From August 11, 2022, the company will cancel the option to ban data transfer (consumption of Internet traffic) in roaming. Because of this, travel may bring unexpected expenses. Discuss

Ilya noted that to see how it happens,It is possible on the example of Beeline. Charges for “using” the Internet can occur even with a second SIM, despite the fact that only SIM 1 is assigned for data transfer in an Android smartphone.

Shatilin summed up that in roaming, now it will be necessary to turn off the phone physically and keep only local/tourist SIM cards. So, at MegaFon, 100 KB cost 6.9 rubles.

This has already happened with Beeline and the ownersiPhone. Users reported that when the Internet was turned off and there were no calls in roaming, money was debited from them. It turned out that Beeline charged the so-called service traffic, which cannot be turned off.
