Meizu killer? Chinese automaker Nio is building its own smartphone

The Chinese company Nio, specializing in the production of electric vehicles, announced its intention to enter the market

Its founder, who calls himself William Lee, says the company is already "moving forward in its efforts to build a smartphone," but has not yet discloseddetails regarding the future product – except for hints that there is UWB support for interacting with Nio cars.It is the closedness of UWB protocols from other smartphone manufacturers (for example, Apple) that William Lee callsthe reason why Nio decided to create its own smartphone.

Nio does not intend to offer a wide rangesmartphones - according to William Lee, we are talking about one model per year, like Apple. However, Apple releases at least 4 models of smartphones a year, so it's not entirely clear what the Nio founder has in mind. The target audience will be owners of Nio cars, the company does not expect a wide commercial success. But apparently intends to create a high-end device - William Lee mentioned in an interview that "it is not difficult to create smartphones, but it is difficult to create smartphones that work well." In general, the Nio project is very similar to the actions of Geely, who bought Meizu to produce a small number of top-end smartphones.
