Mercedes electric van not only does not harm the environment, but also improves it [video]

Newly unveiled Sustaineer van concept is all-electric, but it doesn't just do no harm

the environment - it improves it.Particle filters on the front and underbody clean the air around the van, regardless of speed. It even features ceramic-coated cast iron disc brakes, which both reduce airborne dust and limit brake wear.

Sustaineer is also equipped with solar panels onroof to increase driving range and reduce the need to charge from a socket (this sometimes contributes to CO2 emissions). They can also power devices whether the van is running or not, such as tools and laptops. Solar power on electrified cars is nothing new, but Mercedes is clearly hoping that deployments like these will make electric vehicles as green as possible.

Other green technologies include energy savingheating system and active use of recycled materials. The filler is made from household waste, the cab bulkhead is built from natural straw, and the bottom includes recycled polypropylene and used tires. Mercedes also reduces noise pollution thanks to a quiet electric drivetrain and low rolling resistance tires.

Safety is also a concern. The camera monitors the condition of the roads and transmits messages about potholes and other “troubles” around town, and the digital mirrors provide a clearer field of vision than typically found in cargo vans. “Biologically active” the light keeps the driver alert by filling the cabin with daylight-like illumination.

Despite the mention of the secrecy of the project for large-scale serial production, Mercedes does not give any mention of the beginning of such.
