Microsoft begins testing tabs in “Notepad” Windows

Microsoft has officially started testing the tabs feature in the standard Notepad program. in Windows 11. Previously

a company employee accidentally reported this on Twitter, but the post was quickly deleted. Now the tabs are displayed in the latest system build for members of the Windows Insider program.

The feature works as you'd expect: it lets you use multiple text files in a single window, similar to how folders work in Explorer.

“There are also new keyboard shortcutsto support tab management, as well as some improvements to unsaved file management, such as automatic file name/tab title generation based on content and an updated unsaved changes indicator”, – says Microsoft Chief Product Manager Dave Grochocki.

Notepad will be the second program to receivetabs, after the feature arrived in File Explorer last year. Microsoft already planned to integrate the feature 5 years ago in the Sets program, but then it never came out.
