Microsoft employees will be able to take unlimited vacation

Microsoft has given its employees unlimited vacation time. This became known from a letter

Kathleen Hogan, Director ofstaff at Microsoft. Microsoft calls its unlimited leave "discretionary leave" and it will apply to all full-time US employees.

“How, when and where we do our work, changed dramatically”, – explains Hogan in an internal memo. “And as we have transformed, modernizing our leave policies to a more flexible model was a natural next step”.

The changes will take effect on January 16, and thismeans that new employees of the company will not have to wait in order to take vacation pay. Microsoft hourly workers will not be offered unlimited vacation time, nor will workers outside the US. Microsoft says federal wage and hour laws make it difficult to provide unlimited vacation time for hourly workers, and those outside the US will retain their current vacation benefits due to different laws and regulations in other countries.
