Microsoft releases Minecraft: Bedrock Edition for Chromebook in Early Access

Microsoft has launched an early version of Minecraft: Bedrock Edition for chromeOS. The game will work on Chromebooks thanks to support

Android applications. The chromeOS version of Minecraft will include cross-device play with friends, a marketplace, and support for Realms play.

What is known

Mojang released Minecraft:The Education Edition for Chromebooks is still in 2020, but you needed a school license or a Microsoft 365 Education account to play it. But it looks like it's time for a full version. Of course, Minecraft has its own system requirements:

  • Operating system: chromeOS 111 or later;
  • Processor Intel Celeron N4500, Intel i3-7130U, Mediatek MT8183, Qualcomm SC7180 or better;
  • At least 1 GB of free space to store maps, additional files, etc.

“Early access means that on this firstOnly select Chromebooks that meet the minimum requirements will be able to purchase Minecraft, so you'll have to check the Google Play Store to see if Minecraft is available for you”, – explains a Mojang spokesperson in a blog post.

Until now, Chromebook users had touse workarounds to run Minecraft on Chrome OS or settle for Minecraft: Education Edition. The Java version of the game requires Linux programs on your Chromebook and some manual steps to run Minecraft, and even then you'll need a high-end Chromebook to handle the performance requirements.
