
The UK wants to equip its Challenger 3 main battle tanks with a laser warning system
What is known
Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land, jointan enterprise of the British company BAE Systems and the German Rheinmetall, has signed a contract with the British division of the Israeli defense company Elbit Systems for the supply of 150 E-LAWS laser warning systems for the Challenger 3. It notifies the crew of the combat vehicle about laser irradiation of the enemy's guidance system.
E-LAWS enables seamless integration with a variety of countermeasures and training within the vehicle. The system comes with an integrated test platform.

Challenger 3 is an upgraded mainBritish army tank. The British Armed Forces although to upgrade 148 Challenger 2 combat vehicles. In the late spring of 2021, the Ministry of Defense signed a contract with Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land and allocated $ 1 billion to it.
One of the updates will be the replacement of the Royal Ordnance L30 cannon with a Rheinmetall 120 mm High-Pressure L55, as in Leopard 2. This update will allow the Challenger 3 tanks to use programmable ammunition.
