This is probably a response to the call of 30 scientists from differentcountries of the world that have declared the need to rename the monkeypox virus and the disease resulting from it, since the name of the virus needs to be clarified. It will also help to avoid discrimination and stigmatization.
“WHO is also working with partners and experts fromaround the world to change the name of the monkeypox virus, its branches and the disease it causes. We will announce new titles soon,” Ghebreyesus said.
