Most Epic Drone Photos of 2021: Contest Results Revealed

In four years, the Drone Photo Awards has quickly grown into one of the most spectacular aerial photography competitions.Winners

This year raises the bar in the art of drone photography: fromAn incredibly close-up of a sleeping polar bear to a stunningly surreal look at an erupting volcano.

The competition covers seven categories - photographing people,nature, wild animals, abstractions and more. All types of aerial photography, including pictures taken from airplanes and balloons, can participate in the competition.

Terje Kolaas is the winner this year.He participated with an immersive shot of pink geese that migrate in the Arctic. The unique nature of photography, captured from a drone-only perspective, highlights the experimental trends in drone photography.

Many award winning photographs andhighly praised by the jury this year, using the familiar "eyes of God" top view. However, many pictures were taken from unexpected angles. For example, Martin Gregus' photograph of a sleeping polar bear shows how drones and remote cameras can help capture animals from different angles.

Another new trend in the impressive seriesThis year's work is a growing trend for photographers to tackle journalistic or political subjects using drones. An example is a photo of a Rohingya refugee camp taken by Azim Khan Ronnie.

Other winners this year include funnya view of a small poodle-shaped forest, an amazing view of bubbling lava inside a volcano in Iceland and a spectacular lightning shot over the Adriatic Sea. More photos are on the competition website.
