Motorola brought a rather interesting device called the Motorola Defy to the MWC 2023 exhibition in Barcelona.
What it is
This is a portable device that addssupport for satellite communications on any smartphone. This requires a connection via Bluetooth and the proprietary Bullitt Satellite Messenger application. If your phone is lost or dead, use the special SOS button to contact emergency services and send your coordinates.
The device itself is quite compact - e.g.it can be hung on your backpack or put in your pocket. Its dimensions are 70x50x11 mm and its weight is only 70 g. The device has an IP68 protection rating against dust and water, and has also passed MIL-STD-810H tests.

The built-in 600 mAh battery provides several days of autonomy.
Price and when to expect
Motorola Defy Satellite Link will go on sale in April. The new product costs $100, and the full package with a 12-month Essentials Messaging Plan subscription (30 two-way messages per month) costs $150.
