MTS will be sued for tariff hike in 2022

The Federal Antimonopoly Service recognized the cellular operator MTS as a violator of the antimonopoly

legislation due to unjustified tariff increases. Discuss

It is noted that in January 2022, MTS increasedthe cost of services for more than 28 million of its subscribers by 9.5%, then the company referred to rising costs. But the FAS did not provide any confirmation of this.

In August, MTS again increased the cost of services for some tariffs by 8.4%, and already in September and October 2022, for all remaining tariffs, prices increased by an average of 9.7%.

FAS got acquainted with the increase in prices for servicesoperator, but came to the conclusion that these increases have no technological, economic or other justification and violate antitrust laws, in connection with which MTS was ordered to reduce tariffs.

“Thus, the total increase in tariffs for 28 million subscribers in 2022 amounted to more than 20%, while the consumer price index at the end of August was 10.5%,” the FAS noted.
