NASA showed the closest pictures of the Sun

NASA, together with the European Space Agency (ESA), showed the closest photographs of the Sun. They were

taken by the automated Solar Orbiter spacecraft, which launched in February.

Thanks to Solar Orbiter, humanity has receivedthe most detailed images of the star around which planet Earth orbits. In June, the device passed 77 million kilometers from the Sun. This was his first approach to a star.

In the images taken by the EUI tool inIn the extreme ultraviolet wavelength range, scientists discovered so-called “campfires” - numerous small flashes. They can be millions of times smaller than ordinary solar flares.

The peculiarity of the images obtained is that no discoveries were expected from them. Rather, they were made to test the operation of the equipment.
