NASA astronauts install supports for solar panels on the ISS

The astronauts walked into outer space around 06:00 US East Coast time (14:00 Moscow time). The countdown started at

the moment when the astronauts' spacesuits switched to an autonomous power system.

Rubins and Glover were out of the ISS sevenhours and four minutes. In particular, they prepared the foundations for the installation of new solar panels. Installation is expected to begin later this year.

As stated in NASA, due to the fact that the numberexperiments on the ISS has increased, energy consumption has increased. The six new solar panels, which SpaceX have supplied, should increase the station's electrical capacity by 30%.

Existing solar panels work fine, but they showed signs of wear and tear, as expected since they were designed to last 15 years. The first solar panels were installed in December 2000; they provided the station with energy for more than 20 years.
