"Our results show that cosmic raysdestroy amino acids in the surface rocks and regolith of Mars much faster than previously thought, ”said Alexander Pavlov, an associate at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt.

“Today’s missions sink into the ground for aboutby 5 cm. At this depth, cosmic rays will destroy amino acids for 20 million years. A period of 20 million years is relatively short.
