NASA has named the four-person crew that will go beyond low altitude for the first time in more than 50 years.

Mission "Artemis-2" - the second part of the program"Artemis", the beginning of which was laid by the unmanned flight of the Orion spacecraft, which successfully completed last fall. According to the plan of the space agency, "Artemis-2" will go towards the natural satellite of the Earth in November 2024.
Like the Artemis 1 mission, the second part of the flightwill pass without landing on the lunar surface. The main objective of the mission is to test systems that are significantly different from the ship and launch vehicle used during the last flight of the Apollo lunar program. During their mission, the four astronauts will spend about 10 days aboard the spacecraft in deep space conditions.

"Artemis-2" will largely duplicateprevious unmanned flight: this will be another flyby around the natural satellite of the earth with the help of the Orion spacecraft, which will launch the Space Launch System (SLS) into orbit. During the mission, NASA is expected to be able to test the spacecraft's human-facing systems that could not be tested during an unmanned flight.
If the mission is successful, the next step will be Artemis-3, a space flight during which a man, many decades later, will again set foot on the surface of the moon.
